Rodenbach Vintage is the pinnacle of the brewery’s craft, representing a single selected foeder aged for two full years. This Flanders Red Ale pours a deep, brilliant burgundy with a fine, pale tan head. The aroma is a complex tapestry of intense dark fruits—black cherry, plum, and red currant—interwoven with elegant oak-derived vanilla and a clean, sharp acidity. On the palate, a soft, toasty malt foundation supports vibrant tartness and rich fruit leather notes. The finish is remarkably dry and vinous, displaying structural tannins and a lingering, refreshing acidity reminiscent of a fine vintage red wine.
Appearance.Deep burgundy to reddish-brown in color with excellent clarity. It features a thin, off-white to light tan head with moderate retention and light lacing.
Aroma.High intensity sour and fruity profile. Dominant notes of black cherries, red currants, and plums are prominent. Subtle oak-derived vanilla and light peppery phenols emerge behind a sharp but clean acidic punch. No hop aroma is present.
Taste.Complex initial impression of tart red fruit and toasty malt. Flavors of dark cherry and balsamic-like acidity dominate, balanced by faint chocolate and vanilla notes from the wood. Bitterness is very low, as the balance is driven by acidity and wood tannins. The finish is long, dry, and vinous.
Mouthfeel.Medium-bodied with a prickly, refreshing carbonation. Distinctive oak tannins provide a wine-like structure. A prickly acidity is present but well-integrated, leading to a deceivingly light and crisp finish.
