The aroma is dominated by the specific addition of cocoa nibs and the distinct, savory scent of roasted peanuts, reminiscent of high-end Belgian pralines and buttery toffee. As a classic interpretation, it offers a jet-black pour with an exceptionally thick, viscous texture. The palate is a complex tapestry of bittersweet chocolate and intense dark malts, balanced by a firm roast bitterness and the earthy character of nuts. At 10% ABV, it provides a smooth, warming finish that integrates sweet confectionary notes into a robust, chewy body.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It produces a dense, persistent mocha-colored head with excellent retention and thick lacing. High viscosity is evident by the visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich, deep roasted malt character featuring espresso and dark chocolate is heightened by intense cocoa nibs. Pronounced roasted peanuts provide a nutty, savory element. Subtle esters of dried plums and figs meld with caramel and toffee sweetness, while alcohol is noticeable but smooth. Low earthy hop aroma.
Taste. Intense initial flavors of bittersweet cocoa, Belgian pralines, and roasted peanuts. The malt profile is complex, offering layers of black licorice, burnt grain, and toffee. Bitterness is medium-high, derived from both roasted grains and hops, providing a balanced, bittersweet finish. The aftertaste lingers with notes of dark chocolate and savory nuttiness.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious, and coating texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A distinct, smooth alcohol warmth is present but remains well-integrated and never harsh.
