This Imperial Baltic Porter is an indulgent exploration of malt complexity, drawing from eight different European malts to build a massive, velvety profile. The sensory experience is dominated by deep notes of dark bread and toasted biscuit, seamlessly integrated with rich layers of dark chocolate and caramel. A sophisticated ester profile emerges as dried plums and raisins, typical of the style's strength, while the cold fermentation with a clean lager strain ensures these flavors remain focused and pure. Despite its significant gravity, the finish is remarkably smooth, leaving a lingering impression of cocoa and dark fruit warmth.
Appearance. Deep, opaque dark brown with dark reddish-copper highlights at the edges. Features a thick, persistent, tan-colored head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity malt-forward aroma featuring deep toast, dark chocolate, and molasses. Pronounced notes of dried plums and prunes provide a vinous quality, complemented by a clean, smooth alcohol presence and a hint of dark bread crust.
Taste. Rich and complex maltiness initially presents flavors of caramel, toffee, and dark chocolate. Mid-palette reveals intense dark fruit esters reminiscent of black currants and dried cherries. A smooth, roasted character similar to dark cocoa persists without any burnt or harsh graininess. The finish is well-balanced with medium-low bitterness, concluding with a lingering, warming aftertaste of licorice and toasted malt.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a smooth, luxurious texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing enough lift to prevent heaviness. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth reflects its high strength without being sharp.
