Mikkeller Black is an immensely powerful Imperial Stout that redefines intensity. Its sensory profile is dominated by a massive presence of bittersweet chocolate and deeply roasted malts. The addition of whisky, vanilla, and oak notes adds a spirit-like complexity that melds with dark fruit esters of prune and raisin. A distinct, warming liquorice character emerges on the finish, providing a spicy counterpoint to the thick malt body. Designed for longevity, its aggressive charred grain and high alcohol presence provide a wild, expansive experience that softens into a harmonious, vinous masterpiece with extended cellar aging.

Appearance. SRM 40+; jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thin, dark tan head with low retention. High viscosity is evident in thick legs that cling to the glass.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and burnt grain. Prominent notes of oak, vanilla, and whisky-like spirits. Esters of raisins and black currants are noticeable alongside a significant but smooth alcohol presence.

Taste. Intense initial impact of dark chocolate and espresso. Massive malt sweetness is balanced by aggressive roasted bitterness and charred grain character. Mid-palate flavors of toasted oak and vanilla lead into a long, lingering finish of black liquorice and spirit-like warmth.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a velvety, nearly syrupy texture. Carbonation is low. Significant alcohol warmth is present and warming, though smooth for its extreme strength.
