This bold Red Rye IPA pours a striking crimson, balancing robust hop intensity with a distinctive peppery rye character. The aroma is a complex tapestry of zesty mandarin and grapefruit driven by a fiery mix of New Zealand, American, and Australian hops, layered over a spicy grain backbone. On the palate, the sharp crack of rye malt meets a lush tropical profile, evolving into an unexpected but smooth finish reminiscent of coconut cream and vanilla. At 7.5% ABV, it commands attention with a firm bitterness and a seductive, lingering complexity that perfectly marries the punch of a Specialty IPA with the earthy depth of specialty malts.
Appearance. Deep crimson to reddish-copper (15–20 SRM). Topped with a persistent, off-white to light tan head that leaves decorative lacing. Brilliant clarity with a slight chill haze permissible.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of mandarin, grapefruit, and a tropical twist including coconut and vanilla. The malt profile is moderate, characterized by a distinct peppery rye spiciness and light toasted bread, with very low clean caramel sweetness in the background.
Taste. Initial hop-forward impression of juicy citrus and tropical fruit. The mid-palate is defined by a moderate malt flavor showcasing sharp, spicy rye and toasted grain. Medium-high bitterness provides a firm structure without being harsh. The finish is off-dry and lingering, transitioning from citrus zest to a smooth, creamy coconut and vanilla aftertaste. Fermentation is clean with low fruity esters.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its 7.5% strength. Minimal astringency despite the rye and hop load.
