Laugar Zapaburu is a vibrant Hazy IPA that exemplifies the modern, juice-forward approach of the style. The grist, featuring flaked oats and wheat alongside barley malt, creates a dense, opaque appearance and a pillowy, soft foundation. On the nose and palate, an intense hopping regime delivers punchy citrus layers, ranging from zesty grapefruit to sweet tangerine, anchored by a subtle but distinct resinous undertone. While the bitterness remains restrained, the hop expression is massive and multi-dimensional. This 6.5% ABV ale balances its fruity intensity with a smooth, medium-full body, finishing with a lingering, clean citrus brightness.
Appearance. Straw to light amber with a heavy, opaque haze. Features a thick, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by citrus, including tangerine and lemon peel, and a faint piney resin. Low, clean, bready malt presence from the wheat and oats. Clean fermentation profile with very subtle fruity esters.
Taste. Massive fruity hop flavors mirroring the aroma, focusing on bright citrus and a light resinous snap. Medium-low perceived bitterness that feels soft and integrated. The malt provides a bready, neutral backdrop without caramel sweetness. The finish is off-dry and smooth, leaving a pleasant citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy texture from the flaked grains. Medium carbonation. Smooth without any astringency or harsh hop burn. Light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
