La Source Beer Co. Carpe redefines the classic American IPA template as a vibrant, highly refreshing hazy offering at an approachable 4.7% ABV. This expression features a bright burst of tropical and citrus fruit aromas, driven by modern New World hops that evoke ripe mango, passionfruit, and sweet grapefruit peel. A soft, wheaty malt profile delivers a pillowy foundation, balancing the juicy hop character without heavy caramel sweetness. With its lower alcohol presence and smooth, restrained bitterness, it delivers an incredibly clean and sessionable drinking experience while preserving the bold, hop-forward soul of the style.
Appearance. Pours a hazy, pale straw to light gold (3-5 SRM) with a thick, frothy, white head that exhibits excellent persistence and leaves dense, clingy lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Pronounced, hop-forward aroma dominated by vibrant notes of tropical fruit (mango, pineapple), stone fruit (peach), and bright citrus (tangerine, grapefruit). Low, clean, bready malt sweetness supports the hop showcase, accompanied by a clean fermentation profile with negligible yeast esters.
Taste. Opens with an immediate wave of juicy tropical fruit and citrus hop flavors. The malt backbone is low, clean, and crackery, providing just enough support without adding cloying sweetness. Bitterness is moderate (around 35-45 IBU), softer than typical West Coast examples, leading to a crisp, dry-ish, and highly refreshing finish with a lingering, pleasant citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a soft, slightly creamy, and pillowy texture. Moderate to high carbonation enhances the refreshing, crisp mouthfeel. Alcohol warmth is absent, and there is no astringency or harshness.
