This masterful collaboration between La Débauche and Moersleutel presents an Imperial Stout and Baltic Porter blend of immense depth. At 13% ABV, it delivers a powerhouse sensory experience shaped by a multi-barrel aging program. The nose is an intricate tapestry of dark chocolate and espresso, interwoven with the peated smoke of whisky and the refined orchard fruit of Calvados. The palate is equally layered, revealing velvety textures of coffee liqueur and vinous Cognac notes. It concludes with a persistent, warming finish where charred oak and dark fruit esters provide a sophisticated, bittersweet harmony characteristic of a grand-scale stout.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It produces a thick, persistent deep tan to mocha-colored head with excellent lacing. High viscosity is evident as the beer forms heavy legs on the side of the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex layering of roasted grains, espresso, and dark chocolate. Distinctive secondary notes from the barrel aging emerge as peated smoke, apple brandy, and vinous oak. Esters of dried figs and raisins are present, complemented by a rich coffee liqueur sweetness and a noticeable but smooth spirituous warmth.
Taste. An initial impression of rich, bittersweet chocolate and heavy roast is quickly followed by complex barrel-derived flavors. Notes of peat smoke and earthy coffee are balanced by the fruitiness of Calvados and the elegant, warming grape character of Cognac. Moderate-high bitterness from roasted malts provides a counterpoint to the residual malt sweetness. The finish is long and lingering with notes of charred wood, dark fruit, and a pleasant alcohol heat.
Mouthfeel. Full and viscous with a chewy, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the luscious mouthfeel. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout, without being sharp or solventy.
