Prodigality is a decadent expression of the English Barley Wine style, elevated by two years of patient slumber in bourbon barrels. Built upon a massive foundation of Maris Otter malt, the extended boil concentrates the sugars, yielding deep Maillard flavors of burnt sugar and rich toffee. The aroma is an intense tapestry of sweet prune, old leather, and smooth bourbon spirit. On the palate, this luxurious ale delivers a velvety, chewy texture with complex layers of biscuit, dark fruit, and oak-driven vanilla. It is a masterful winter sipper, balancing its significant alcohol warmth with a lingering, vinous finish that remains incredibly smooth despite its strength.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown with brilliant ruby highlights and exceptional clarity from extended aging. It features a thin, fine-beaded tan head with low retention. High viscosity is evident through thick, slow-moving legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Dominant aromas of caramelized Maris Otter malt, burnt sugar, and toffee are layered with dark dried fruits like sweet prune and raisin. Significant barrel influence provides notes of aged leather, vanilla, and a soft bourbon warmth, while slight oxidative notes suggest a refined, sherry-like character.

Taste. A rich, multi-layered malty sweetness leads with flavors of biscuit, dark caramel, and molasses. The middle palate reveals concentrated prune and dried fig fruitiness, complemented by bourbon-soaked oak and vanilla. Hop bitterness is low, allowing the malt and barrel character to dominate the balance. The finish is moderately sweet and lingering, with a smooth, vinous alcohol presence.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, viscous, and exceptionally chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low. A significant and well-integrated alcohol warmth is present throughout, providing a comforting glow without any harsh or fusel edges.

Description: Churning out complexity through time and heat. The solo grain, Maris Otter, brims the mash tun for a long soak. A portion of the first runnings were boiled and reduced, triggering the Maillard Reaction; through which, the vigorous heating of sugars adds a deeper color and flavor. Continuing on with an extended boil to increase said reaction. A prolonged nap of 24 months in bourbon barrels finishes off this luxurious prize. Indulge in Prodigality’s warm embrace with notes of burnt sugar, sweet prune, oak, and leather.
