Horizont Brewing

Currant Interest is an intense expression of a Wild Specialty Beer, bursting with a massive addition of blackcurrant and redcurrant. The sensory journey begins with an electric magenta pour and an immediate aromatic punch of earthy, dark berries and sharp, bright fruit skin. On the palate, a piercing lactic acidity drives the 'super-sour' profile the brewery intended, stripping away sweetness to leave a bone-dry, puckering finish. These forest fruits provide deep color and a subtle tannic grip, while the clean, wild fermentation allows the pure, unadulterated character of the currants to dominate every sip, tingling the tastebuds with vibrant tartness.

Appearance. Vibrant, deep magenta to purple-red (SRM 25+). Head is a light pinkish-violet with moderate retention, eventually fading to a thin ring. Hazy to opaque due to the heavy fruit load.

Aroma. High intensity. Dominant blackcurrant notes of dark berry and musk are complemented by the sharp, acidic snap of redcurrant. Clean lactic sourness is prominent, with very low funk and no detectable hop aroma.

Taste. Initial impression is aggressively tart. Strong flavors of fresh blackcurrant and tart redcurrant lead the profile. Hop bitterness is negligible; the balance is strictly between high fruit acidity and a lean malt backbone. Finish is bone-dry and very long, with a lingering tart-berry aftertaste and no residual sweetness.

Mouthfeel. Light body with a crisp, refreshing texture. Moderate to high carbonation provides a lively prickle on the tongue. Noticeable but pleasant astringency from the currant skins adds structure. No alcohol warmth.

A 4-es csillagozást inkább 3,5-nek szánom... Savanykás. Ribizlis-féle. Aztán érződik, hogy gyümölcsös. A gyümölcsösség a domináns benne. Én valahogy komplexebb sörre vágytam volna, vagy hogy a ribizlis íz dominánsabb legyen. (De lehet, hogy az is belerondított a képbe, hogy majdnem végigkóstoltam már az összes Night Shift tételt frissen, és áthoztam ide azt a fajta komplexitást, mint elvárást). A sör habja és színe viszont kiemelkedően szép. És amúgy én kifejezetten örültem a ribizlis ötletnek, megvalósításnak.
