Imperial IPA 8.2 º
Abner is a masterful Double IPA that honors tradition with a profound expression of American hops. An unfiltered, hazy pour releases an intense bouquet of grapefruit zest and resinous pine, complemented by delicate floral notes. This aromatic profile is anchored by a lean backbone of American malted barley, providing a clean, grainy support without cloying sweetness. On the palate, the house ale yeast imparts a soft, fruity ester profile that elevates the vibrant hop character. The finish is remarkably dry and crisp, showcasing a firm but smooth bitterness that emphasizes drinkability despite its significant strength, all while maintaining the rustic purity of the brewery’s well water.
Appearance. Pours a hazy, pale gold to light orange-copper (7-9 SRM) with a thick, persistent white head that leaves dense, intricate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring bright citrus, resinous pine, and distinct floral notes. The malt is supportive and clean with a neutral, grainy character. A lightly fruity fermentation profile from the house yeast is present, with no solventy alcohol notes.
Taste. Strong, complex hop flavors dominated by citrus peel and pine resin. A low to medium grainy malt presence provides soft support without caramel sweetness. Bitterness is high but exceptionally smooth, leading into a dry, clean finish with a long-lasting, hoppy aftertaste. Low fruitiness from fermentation complements the hop profile.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture from being unfiltered. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no harsh hop-derived astringency.
