È stata la prima ale a maturare in barili di whisky di una nota distilleria e, con barili tracciabili e bottiglie numerate, è una birra con una vera e propria provenienza. Per fare l’Ola Dubh 12, prendiamo il nostro Old Engine Oil (amplificato fino al 10,5%) e lo facciamo invecchiare fino a 6 mesi in botti che in precedenza detenevano Highland Park 12 Year Old single malt. Ed è pronto solo quando il nostro capo birraio, Stuart, lo ritiene pronto!

Questa incredibile birra è stata invecchiata in botti di quercia selezionate, utilizzate in passato per far maturare l’Highland Park 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, aggiungendo note di whisky complementari alla nostra birra dolce-amaro e cioccolatosa.

Ola Dubh 12 è nera con un modesta schiuma che si riduce lentamente, lasciando dietro di sé un’allacciatura da manuale. L’aroma è delizioso; salsa Worcestershire affumicata, cuoio, iodio e bistecca alla griglia. Sapori di malti dolci e affumicati, torba tostata, chicchi di caffè e un finale ben amaricante. Nel complesso si tratta di un infuso piuttosto esotico con un’influenza definita del barile. È raffinata piuttosto che sopra le righe e davvero molto deliziosa.

Ola Dubh Special Reserve 12 is based on award winning Old Engine Oil matured in Highland Park 12 Year Old Whisky Barrels. It retains the appearance of used motor oil deep dark brown, dense and oily. On the nose there are notes of truffle oil and cocoa as well as faint smoke and heathery peat from the whisky casks. Lighter in body than its appearance suggests Ola Dubh is pithy, oily, salty and bitter on the palate. The finish is exceptional burnt and bitter notes with an interplay of late hop characters, orange oil, fruity tartness and then delicate fragrant smoke.

Harviewstoun say “Ola Dubh is a labour of love. Everything about it is extreme. The brew team fill the mash tuns to the brim with roast barley, pinhead oats and malted barley. It ferments more slowly as the the yeast struggles to move around in such a viscous beer! The base beer is Old Engine Oil which they then put into Highland Park Whisky casks and it stays there for at least 6 months. During this time the flavours from the wood enter the beer to produce Ola Dubh. It is ready only when our Master Brewer, Stuart, deems it ready!”

Om de Ola Dubh te maken, wordt de eigen Old Engine Oil genomen en versterkt tot 10,5%, daarna wordt deze voor maximaal 6 maanden in vaten gerijpt die eerder Highland Park single malt bevatten.

De Harviestoun Ola Dubh 12 is gerijpt in eiken vaten van Highland Park 12 jaar en heeft een alcohol percentage van 8%. De Ola Dubh 12 is een zeer donker bier met een mokka-gekleurde schuimkraag. Het aroma is een mix van whisky, zoete geroosterde mout en vanille. De smaak is rijk; beladen met zoete geroosterde donkere mouten, koffie en whisky. Harviestoun Ola Dubh 12 Year Old

Ola Dubh is a labor of love. Everything about it is extreme. The brew team fill the mash tuns to the brim with roast barley, pinhead oats and malted barley. It ferments more slowly as the the yeast struggles to move around in such a viscous beer!

The base beer is Old Engine Oil which they then put into Highland Park Whisky casks and it stays there for at least 6 months. During this time the flavors from the wood enter the beer to produce Ola Dubh. It is ready only when our Master Brewer, Stuart, deems it ready!

Ingredients: Water, malted barley, pinhead oats, hops, yeast

Hops: East Kent Goldings, Fuggles, Galena

It was the first ale to be matured in whisky barrels from a named distillery and, with traceable casks and numbered bottles, it is a beer with real provenance. To make Ola Dubh 12, we take our Old Engine Oil (amped up to 10.5%) and age it for up to 6 months in casks that previously held Highland Park 12 Year Old single malt. And it is ready only when our head brewer, Stuart, deems it ready! Note: This beer is 8% ABV in bottle, 10.5% ABV in cask and keg.

Ola Dubh (uitgesproken als 'ola-doe' en Gaelic voor 'zwarte olie') werd bedacht in 2007. Het was het eerste bier dat rijpte in whiskyvaten van een distilleerderij met een naam. Dankzij traceerbare vaten en genummerde flessen is het een bier met een authentieke herkomst. Om Ola Dubh 12 te maken, nemen we onze oude motorolie (opgevoerd tot 10,5%) en rijpen deze tot 6 maanden in vaten waarin voorheen Highland Park 12 Year Old single malt whisky heeft gezeten. En het is pas klaar wanneer onze hoofdbrouwer, Stuart, het klaar vindt!

Dit fantastische brouwsel is gerijpt in geselecteerde eikenhouten vaten die voorheen gebruikt werden voor de rijping van Highland Park 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, wat complementaire whiskytonen toevoegt aan ons chocoladeachtige, bitterzoete bier.

Ola Dubh 12 schenkt zwart met een bescheiden schuimkraag die langzaam inzakt en een typische kanteling achterlaat. Het aroma is heerlijk: rokerige worcestersaus, leer, jodium en gegrilde biefstuk. Smaken van rokerig-zoete mout, geroosterde turf, koffiebonen en een goed bittere afdronk. Al met al is dit een vrij exotisch brouwsel met een duidelijke invloed van het vat.
