Odin, a collaboration between Funky Fluid and Malmö Meadery, is a colossal Imperial Porter that pushes the boundaries of the traditional style. The sensory profile is dominated by a luxurious infusion of toasted coconut and the deep, resinous sweetness of forest honey. Bourbon barrel aging imparts sophisticated layers of charred oak, vanilla, and a potent spirit-forward warmth that complements the massive alcohol content. Underlying the adjuncts is a robust foundation of dark chocolate and roasted malts, providing a decadent, velvety structure. This beer balances the intense sweetness of the honey with the drying tannins of the barrel and the rich, oily essence of coconut, creating a complex, dessert-like experience.
Appearance. Deep, opaque midnight black with ruby highlights at the edges. Pours with a thick, mocha-colored head that subsides to a persistent collar, leaving oily legs on the glass due to the high alcohol content and coconut oils.
Aroma. Intense and complex aroma featuring prominent toasted coconut and sweet bourbon vanilla. A rich base of dark chocolate and roasted coffee provides depth, while forest honey adds a unique floral and earthy sweetness. Moderate oak tannins and a noticeable but smooth alcohol presence are complemented by subtle dark fruit esters like plum.
Taste. Bold and decadent flavors of rich milk chocolate, toasted coconut, and dark caramel. The forest honey provides a complex, slightly herbal sweetness that lingers into the finish. Moderate bitterness is present but largely masked by the massive malt backbone and residual sugars. Bourbon-soaked oak and vanilla notes emerge mid-palate, leading to a long, warming aftertaste of roasted grains and spirituous heat.
Mouthfeel. Extremely full-bodied and viscous, with a thick, syrupy coating on the palate. Carbonation is moderately low, enhancing the beer's richness. A significant and creeping alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its high gravity, while the coconut provides a smooth, almost creamy texture.
