Fuller’s Honey Dew
This Organic Golden Ale offers a luminous old gold to copper hue, topped by a dense, creamy foam. The aroma is a delicate dance of zesty citrus and floral honey, underpinned by a soft, bready malt presence. On the palate, a gentle initial sweetness from the organic honey is expertly balanced by a crisp, zesty bitterness and fruity esters typical of the Griffin Brewery house character. The honey remains nuanced and well-integrated, contributing to a medium-bodied profile that finishes surprisingly dry and clean, leaving a faint, pleasant reminder of the honeycomb without being cloying.
Appearance. Old gold to amber with copper reflections (SRM 6–9). Brilliant clarity and a persistent, creamy off-white head with good lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring floral and wildflower honey notes blended with light bready malt. A distinctive zesty, citrusy hop character is present alongside mild apple and pear esters typical of the English golden ale base.
Taste. Initial impressions of light, honeyed sweetness and bready malt. The mid-palate reveals a zesty, citrus-peel hop flavor and moderate bitterness. The honey provides a complex layer that facilitates fermentation rather than adding heavy residual sugar, leading to a balanced, slightly dry finish with a lingering clean honey aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a refreshing, zesty lift. Very low alcohol warmth, consistent with its 5% ABV strength.
