This Imperial Stout presents an ink-black presence, emitting an intense bouquet of bittersweet chocolate, roasted espresso, and charred grain. True to its straightforward intent, the sensory profile focuses on deep, unadorned malt layers rather than complex adjuncts. Aromas of dark fruit—specifically black currants and raisins—mingle with a subtle, earthy hop presence. The palate is rich and velvety, delivering massive notes of cocoa and black licorice supported by a firm, balancing bitterness. Despite its potent twelve percent alcohol content, the experience remains smooth and integrated, finishing with a lingering warmth and a touch of roasted dryness that invites slow, contemplative sipping.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). A dense, creamy, deep tan head provides moderate retention, leaving thick lacing and visible legs on the glass indicative of high viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of dark-roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and slightly burnt grain. Notable esters of prunes and black currants are present. Hop aroma is low and earthy. Alcohol is noticeable but smooth.
Taste. Initial impression is of rich, dark malt sweetness followed by intense bittersweet chocolate and espresso. Firm bitterness balances the heavy malt. Mid-palate reveals layers of dried plum and fig. The finish is long and warming with a lingering roasted-grain character and a moderately sweet aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A distinct, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated into the massive body.
