Engelszell

Engelszell Nivard is a refined Belgian Pale Ale reflecting its Trappist monastery heritage. It pours a radiant light amber with a dense, creamy white head that shows excellent persistence. The aroma is defined by the expressive Trappist yeast, offering an inviting bouquet of apricot, peach, and subtle pear, layered over a bready and slightly honeyed malt base. On the palate, a soft malt sweetness transitions into spicy and floral hop notes, complemented by a distinct peppery phenolic character. The finish is remarkably clean and dry, leaving a refreshing, slightly piquant bitterness that invites another sip. It is an elegant, well-balanced ale that prioritizes yeast complexity and drinkability.

Appearance. Gold to light amber in color (8-10 SRM). Features a brilliant clarity, though a slight haze may be present due to its unfiltered nature. Topped with a generous, creamy, white, and compact head with high persistence and fine lacing.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity with a dominant fruit character of apricot, peach, and pear derived from Trappist yeast. Low to moderate bready and sweet malt notes are present, complemented by a subtle spicy, herbal hop aroma and a light touch of peppery phenols.

Taste. Initial soft, bready malt flavor followed by pronounced fruity esters of stone fruit. Hop flavor is low to moderate with floral and spicy qualities. Bitterness is medium-low but firm enough to balance the malt sweetness. Fermentation character provides a peppery, spicy edge. The finish is dry and sparkling with a lingering, pleasant herbal bitterness.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. High carbonation provides a prickly, sparkling sensation on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is very low and well-integrated, with no astringency.
