Elusive Brewing

Rippin Rick, a collaborative Double IPA from Elusive Brewing and Pomona Island, delivers an intensely hoppy experience that highlights modern craft precision. At 8% ABV, the beer balances a lean, neutral malt backbone against an explosive hop profile of tropical fruit, citrus, and resinous pine. This profile emphasizes drinkability and a crisp, dry finish rather than the heavy sweetness or malt complexity of a barleywine. The collaboration brings a bright, punchy character where the high bitterness remains smooth and integrated, resulting in a bold yet approachable Strong American Ale with a clean fermentation profile and a lingering, resinous aftertaste.

Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper (7-9 SRM) with good clarity and a slight, modern haze. It supports a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing.

Aroma. Prominent to intense hop aroma featuring notes of mango, passionfruit, and grapefruit zest with a resinous pine undertone. Malt character is supportive and clean with a neutral, grainy quality. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters and a subtle, well-integrated alcohol note.

Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of tropical stone fruit and citrus pith dominate the palate. Bitterness is moderately high but remains soft and lacks harshness. The malt character is low, soft, and unobtrusive, leading into a dry finish with a lingering hoppy, bitter aftertaste and no residual heavy sweetness.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively mouthfeel without harshness or astringency. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is noticeable but refined.
