This American Pale Ale delivers a bright, New World sensory profile centered on the vibrant interplay of NZ Cascade and Southern Cross hops. The experience begins with a bouquet of lime zest, grapefruit, and resinous pine, supported by a lean, bready malt backbone. Southern Cross introduces a distinctive lemon-spice and woody depth, while the NZ Cascade adds a floral citrus lift. Crisp and remarkably sessionable at 4.5% ABV, the beer maintains a refreshing balance between hop aromatics and a clean, firm bitterness. It is a nuanced example of the style, emphasizing terroir-driven hop character over a dry, effervescent finish.
Appearance. Pale golden with brilliant clarity (approximately 6 SRM). Features a moderately large, frothy white head with excellent retention and significant lacing.
Aroma. Moderate-high hop intensity with primary notes of lemon zest, grapefruit, and crushed pine needles. A subtle herbal spiciness and floral undertones are present. Low, neutral grainy maltiness provides a supportive base with minimal fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward, showcasing citrus peel and resinous pine. The Southern Cross hops contribute a peppery, woody spice and lemon-lime flavor. Low bready malt character supports the hops without adding caramel sweetness. Bitterness is moderate and firm, leading to a crisp, dry, and clean finish with a lingering citrus aftertaste.
