Ecliptic Brewing Starburst
Starburst is an assertive American IPA that radiates a solar flare of hop intensity. Utilizing a 100% Pale malt base, the beer provides a neutral, crystalline canvas that allows a complex hop profile to dominate the experience. The nose and palate explode with a constellation of citrus and tropical fruit driven by Citra and Mosaic, while Amarillo and Azacca contribute bright layers of stone fruit and orange zest. Centennial and Simcoe ground the profile with classic resinous pine and floral depth. Despite its strength, the finish is exceptionally clean and dry, emphasizing a crisp bitterness and lingering hop oils rather than malt sweetness.
Appearance. Bright medium gold (approx. 7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Supports a dense, creamy, off-white head with very good persistence and significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring a complex blend of grapefruit, mango, and passion fruit. Prominent notes of resinous pine and orange peel are evident. The malt presence is low and clean, offering a simple bready, grainy character with no noticeable esters.
Taste. Decidedly hop-forward with an immediate impact of tangerine and citrus zest. Firm, medium-high bitterness provides a sharp counterpoint to the subtle, clean grain flavors. Mid-palate reveals resinous and floral notes. The fermentation is very clean, leading into a dry, crisp finish with a lingering, hoppy aftertaste of pine and citrus.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from heavy dry-hopping. Moderate to medium-high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. A light, smooth alcohol warmth is present without any harshness or astringency.
