American Amber Ale 6.2 º
Sham Maths presents a robust take on the American Amber Ale, striking a purposeful balance between substantial grain character and vibrant hop influence. A base of Pale Malt and Munich Malt provides a sturdy, bready foundation, while Crystal Malt and a touch of Chocolate Malt lend deep caramel richness and a hint of toasted complexity. The inclusion of Simcoe and Centennial hops introduces a sharp, resinous edge and citrus brightness that cuts through the malt profile. It finishes with a satisfying, lingering bitterness, reflecting the brewer’s intent for a full-bodied, hoppy experience that remains approachable yet deeply flavorful.
Appearance. Rusty, deep copper (14–17 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a dense, firm, off-white head that demonstrates excellent retention and leaves consistent lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Pronounced aromas of caramel and toasted bread from the Munich and Crystal malts. The Simcoe and Centennial hops provide a clear layer of pine resin, grapefruit zest, and subtle earthy spice. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is of sweet maltiness, dominated by caramel and biscuity Munich malt flavors. This is quickly met by a firm hop bitterness and flavors of resinous pine and citrus peel. The Chocolate Malt adds a subtle depth without roasted harshness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering balance of caramel sweetness and hop resin.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle prickle. At 6.2% ABV, there is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth that enhances the richness.
