De Molen’s Bommen & Granaten is a sweet barleywine. When it was brewed the tasting notes spoke of loads of ripe fruit, loads of malts and cake character and a soft balancing bitterness.
I used to get lots of De Molen beers a few years ago. Then the brewery was sold, and I haven’t had a chance to buy any since. This beer was bottled in 2012 (with a best before date of 2037) and cases of it were recently found in a warehouse. The body is still rich, with marmalade and toffee, and the age has brought amazing Oloroso sherry notes, but the beer does not taste tired, more of a proper aged beer.
