De Mederie Experimead #5 - Whisky BA is a decadent, still Experimental Mead that showcases a masterclass in barrel aging. At a potent 15% ABV, it radiates a deep amber hue with oily legs. The sensory profile is defined by a complex integration of honey and Scotch whisky influences from Glenfiddich, Teaninich, Dalmore, and Clynelish barrels. Aromas of waxy honeycomb, heather, and light peat smoke merge with notes of orchard fruit and sherry-soaked oak. The palate is viscous and warming, delivering intense flavors of vanilla, dried fruit, and a distinct spiritous finish that lingers with a touch of sea spray and wood tannin.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper color with brilliant clarity. Pours still with no head formation; exhibits significant viscosity with thick, slow-moving legs on the glass surface.
Aroma. High intensity; prominent floral honey and waxy esters are layered with rich Scotch whisky notes. Subtle smoke, vanilla, and toasted oak from the Glenfiddich and Dalmore barrels provide depth, while hints of brine and dried fruit emerge.
Taste. Initial honey sweetness is met by a powerful wave of spiritous warmth. Complex flavors of heather honey, sultanas, and spiced oak dominate the mid-palate. The contribution of Clynelish and Teaninich barrels adds a waxy, slightly grassy dimension. Finishes long and sweet with lingering oak tannins and a whisper of peat.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a rich, mouth-coating texture. Carbonation is absent. Significant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Subtle wood-derived astringency.
