This formidable Double IPA, crafted in collaboration with Freestyle Hops and their Hop Research Collective, delivers an intense sensory experience driven by a massive saturation of New Zealand hops. The specific use of Nelson Sauvin and Rakau, both in traditional pellet and concentrated Hop Kief forms, creates a vivid tapestry of crushed white grapes, diesel-tinged gooseberry, and lush stone fruit. Despite its potent 10% strength, the beer maintains a focused profile, allowing the hop-derived tropical and orchard fruit notes to dominate. A supportive, neutral malt backbone provides necessary structure without obscuring the complex, resinous, and fruit-forward finish that defines this high-gravity showcase.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper in color (SRM 8-12). It features a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing and a modern, slight to moderate haze.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma characterized by prominent white wine, gooseberry, and passion fruit from the Nelson Sauvin, alongside apricot and orchard fruit notes from the Rakau. A supportive, clean, grainy maltiness sits in the background with a lightly fruity fermentation profile and a noticeable but clean alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of tropical and stone fruit. High hop bitterness is firm but smooth, lacking harshness.
