This Double IPA delivers a saturation of hop character derived from heavy dry-hopping with Citra and HBC-630. The sensory profile is led by Citra’s signature notes of vibrant grapefruit and tropical mango, which are uniquely complemented by the berry-forward and stone fruit qualities of HBC-630, specifically offering hints of raspberry and peach. The beer pours a deep gold with a resilient white head. On the palate, an assertive bitterness is balanced by a clean, neutral malt backbone, ensuring the hops remain the focus through a dry, crisp finish. Subtle alcohol warmth from the 8.5% ABV is well-integrated, enhancing the overall intensity without becoming solventy.
Appearance. SRM 7-9; deep gold to pale orange with light haze and a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves consistent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, lime, and mango from Citra, alongside distinct raspberry, cherry, and peach esters from HBC-630. Malt character is low and neutral, providing a clean, grainy backdrop with a very light alcohol presence.
Taste. Strong hop flavors of citrus rind, resinous pine, and mixed berries dominate from start to finish. Bitterness is high but clean and devoid of harshness. A supportive, soft, neutral malt presence persists into a medium-dry finish that features a lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste. Fermentation is clean with low fruity esters.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture. Carbonation is medium-high. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the 8.5% ABV without any hop-derived astringency.
