Corfu Microbrewery Bitter Dark
This Strong Bitter pours a deep chestnut color, offering an inviting sensory profile defined by what the brewery calls a rich perfume. The aroma is characterized by floral and earthy English hops, backed by a medium-high malt presence featuring toasted bread and subtle caramel notes. On the palate, a pleasant bitterness is immediately evident, balanced by the nutty and biscuity flavors of Pale Ale and Crystal malts. Moderate fruity esters provide a traditional British character, while the finish is medium-dry and clean. It is a well-rounded ale that emphasizes drinkability through a harmonious interplay of earthy hop character and toasty malt depth.
Appearance. Chestnut to deep copper (approx. 15-18 SRM); moderate off-white head with good retention; clear with brilliant garnet highlights.
Aroma. Moderate intensity; bready, nutty, and lightly toasty malt aroma with a hint of caramel; medium-low floral and earthy hop character; moderate fruity esters suggesting dried fruit or apple.
Taste. Initial toasted malt and biscuit flavors; medium-high bitterness (approx. 35-45 IBU) that provides a firm balance; earthy and slightly resiny hop flavor; medium-dry finish with a lingering, pleasant bitterness and toasted malt aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body; moderate carbonation; light alcohol warmth; smooth texture with a slight mineral crispness in the finish.
