Chuckanut Brewery Scarlet Ale

American Amber Ale 4.7 º 28 IBU
Chuckanut Brewery’s Scarlet Ale is a masterclass in malt precision, showcasing a striking ruby hue derived from a thoughtful blend of Best Malts Red X, Weyermann’s Carared, and Melanoidin malts. This American Amber Ale leans into its sessionable nature with a deep, bready, and toasty foundation that anchors the sensory experience. The aroma is a delicate interplay of soft caramel and subtle American hop notes, leading into a palate defined by biscuit-like sweetness and a refined, integrated bitterness. Clean and impeccably balanced, it finishes with a crisp dryness that invites another sip, honoring the brewery’s reputation for technical excellence in sessionable styles.
Appearance. Brilliant clarity with a deep scarlet to coppery-red color (approximately 14–17 SRM). Topped by a persistent, moderately large, off-white head with good retention and delicate lacing.
Aroma. Moderate malt intensity featuring distinct notes of toasted bread, rich caramel, and a hint of biscuit. Hop aroma is low to moderate, presenting clean citrus and subtle floral notes. Fermentation character is very clean with negligible esters.
Taste. The initial impression is of bready malt sweetness followed by layers of toasted grain and light caramel. A moderate hop bitterness provides a sturdy backbone, balancing the malt without overwhelming it. No roasted or burnt characters are present. The finish is medium-dry with lingering notes of toast and a clean, refreshing aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate to moderately high, enhancing the beer’s crispness. Alcohol presence is negligible, contributing to high drinkability without any astringency.

Description
Considered uncommon in the world of beers today, Chuckanut is excited to rediscover this old style, sessionable ale. Using Best Malts Red X, Wyermann’s Carared & Melanoidan malts we accentuate the reddish hues in this beer. Its medium body is highlighted by toasted malt flavors balanced with the hops, making Chuckanut Scarlet Ale (formerly known as “Ruby Ale”) a satisfying any-time-of-day tipple.

Food Pairing
There’s enough caramel flavor in Scarlet Ale (formerly known as “Ruby Ale”) to match with the caramel flavors in roasted meats & poultry. Reubens or grilled cheese sandwiches are super with this ale too!
