Cellarmaker Brewing Company

This Coffee Porter is a masterclass in layered depth, balancing the intensity of Sightglass Colombian Finca Madrigal coffee with a sophisticated malt backbone. English malts provide a rich foundation of dark chocolate and espresso, while a delicate addition of German beechwood smoked malt introduces a whisper of campfire complexity. The coffee character is profound and fresh, seamlessly integrated into the roasty profile. It drinks with the smooth elegance of a refined Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer, offering a harmonious interplay between earthy smoke, roasted bean, and cocoa, finishing with a clean, lingering bitterness that invites another sip.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to opaque black (SRM 35-40). Pours with a dense, creamy tan head that shows excellent retention and leaves thick lacing. Clarity is brilliant in the few highlights where light penetrates.

Aroma. High intensity of freshly roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The English malts contribute notes of toasted bread crust and cocoa. A subtle, clean smokiness from the German beechwood smoked malt adds savory complexity without being phenolic. Very low earthy hop aroma and clean fermentation profile.

Taste. Bold initial impression of cold-brew coffee and bittersweet chocolate. The English malts provide a sturdy, roasty mid-palate. Smoked malt character is restrained, providing a dry, woodsy nuance. Bitterness is moderate but enhanced by roasted grains and coffee acidity. Finish is off-dry and roasty with a clean, lingering coffee aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is noticeable but well-integrated. No harsh grain or coffee astringency.
