Camba Black Shark
This Double Black IPA presents a striking sensory duality, merging the intensity of a high-gravity ale with the dark, roasted soul of a stout. The malt profile is defined by sophisticated notes of dark chocolate and freshly roasted coffee, which provide a robust foundation for an assertive hop presence. Unusual fruity top notes of rhubarb, gooseberry, and succulent peach emerge from the hop additions, cutting through the darkness with a sharp, bright edge. At 8.5% ABV, the beer carries a well-integrated warmth that complements its firm bitterness and dry finish, resulting in a complex, multi-layered experience that challenges the palate.
Appearance. Deep ebony to black (35-40 SRM); opaque. Large, persistent, creamy tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring distinct notes of rhubarb, gooseberry, and stone fruit peach. This is balanced by a strong, clean roasted malt character reminiscent of dark chocolate and espresso. Neutral fermentation profile with a subtle, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Hop flavors of gooseberry and peach are prominent mid-palate. Very high bitterness, though not harsh, supported by a clean, toasted malt backbone. The finish is dry and lingering, with a crisp, hoppy aftertaste and a touch of roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Moderate carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth without being hot or solventy. No significant astringency.
