Salvio is a monumental Imperial Stout, further intensified by a long maturation in Islay Whisky barrels. The sensory profile is dominated by an assertive interplay of heavily charred grain and the distinctively medicinal, peaty smoke characteristic of Islay malts. Viscous and jet-black, it offers a deep bouquet of espresso, bittersweet chocolate, and sea spray. The palate is profoundly rich, layering notes of tar, dark-roasted coffee, and dried figs against a backdrop of iodine and campfire smoke. At 15.3% alcohol, the finish is exceptionally long and warming, balancing massive malt sweetness with a firm, resinous bitterness and velvety texture.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. A thin, persistent dark tan head leaves oily legs on the glass, indicative of the high alcohol content and significant viscosity (SRM 40+).
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring pungent peat smoke, iodine, and charred oak from the Islay barrels. Beneath the smoke lies rich dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and deep esters of prune and black currant with a noticeable but well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and espresso gives way to intense Islay whisky character, including notes of peat, wood smoke, and a hint of medicinal iodine. Complex dark fruit flavors of raisin and fig support the malt. The finish is long and bittersweet with a lingering roast and significant warmth.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer's weight. Significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present and lingering without being harsh.
