This iconic Imperial Stout presents a masterful showcase of deep, dark chocolate character derived from a complex blend of six malts. On the nose, intense aromas of bittersweet cocoa and roasted coffee beans mingle with subtle notes of dried black currants and raisins. The palate is exceptionally rich, delivering a luscious wave of baker’s chocolate and toasted grain, supported by a firm hop bitterness that prevents the heavy malt base from becoming cloying. At 10% ABV, a smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth emerges on the finish. Its velvety, chewy texture and lingering dark fruit esters reflect its long-standing reputation as a sophisticated winter classic.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, dense, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through visible legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity aroma dominated by dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and heavily roasted coffee. Secondary notes include black licorice, burnt sugar, and dried dark fruits like prunes and raisins. A clean, warming alcohol presence is noticeable but well-integrated.

Taste. Initial impression is of massive bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt. Flavors of espresso, charred toast, and dark fruit esters follow. Medium-high bitterness from both roasted grains and hops provides balance against the residual sugar. The finish is long and warming with a lingering cocoa and slight hop resin aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious mouth-coating texture. Carbonation is moderate to low. Significant but smooth alcohol warmth provides a comforting glow without being sharp or solventy.
