Appearance. Opaque, ebony-black (40+ SRM) with a thick, creamy tan head that demonstrates excellent retention and leaves dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity aromatic profile dominated by bittersweet chocolate and deep espresso notes. The extra dark crystal malt provides a background of dark fruit and molasses, while roasted barley adds a sharp, char-like edge. Low hop aroma, allowing the specialty ingredients to lead.
Taste. Initial impression is a rich wave of sweet chocolate sauce, quickly countered by the firm bitterness of dark chocolate and heavily roasted grains. The extra dark crystal malt contributes complex layers of burnt sugar and dark plum. Moderate bitterness provides balance against the residual sweetness. The finish is long and warming with a lingering cocoa powder aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a creamy, coating texture. Moderate-low carbonation. A noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no harsh astringency from the dark grains.
