BrewDog Grind presents a deep, indulgent fusion where the roast of ethically sourced coffee meets the structural depth of a stout. The sensory profile is defined by a robust interplay of bitter dark chocolate and velvet-like sweet chocolate sauce. Crystal Malt provides a sticky, caramel-tinged backbone that anchors the earthy, espresso-forward notes. Despite the heavy coffee influence, woody and slightly resinous hints of Simcoe hops emerge in the periphery, adding a clean, balancing edge. This Coffee Stout is rich and full-bodied, finishing with a lingering, toasted dryness that mirrors a well-pulled shot of artisan espresso.
Appearance. Opaque jet black (SRM 40+). Dense, creamy, mocha-colored head with excellent retention and persistent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of freshly roasted espresso and dark cocoa. Secondary notes include burnt sugar and dark caramel from the Crystal Malt. Hop aroma is low, revealing a faint piney or earthy character from the Simcoe. Clean fermentation with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is dominated by intense espresso and bitter dark chocolate. The mid-palate introduces a smoother, milk-chocolate sweetness. Bitterness is moderate-high, derived from both the dark roasted grains and the coffee, supported by a firm hop presence. The Simcoe hops provide a subtle resinous counterpoint to the rich malt. Finishes moderately dry with a lingering roasted bean character.
Mouthfeel. Full body with a smooth, velvety, and almost creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is well-integrated. Minimal grain or coffee-derived astringency.
