This English Barley Wine is a decadent, chewy masterpiece refined by six months of maturation in bourbon barrels. The sensory profile is dominated by a deep, multi-layered malt backbone featuring rich caramel and toasted marshmallow notes. The barrel aging imparts high-intensity cues of toasted oak and vanilla, which meld seamlessly with the style's characteristic dried fruit esters. At 13.3% ABV, it presents as a gentle beast, offering a significant but smooth alcohol warmth that transitions into a lingering, bourbon-soaked finish. Appearance. Deep amber to dark copper with ruby highlights (16–22 SRM). Pours with a thin, creamy, off-white head that shows low retention. Brilliant clarity with visible legs and high viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity with a strong malty sweetness characterized by rich caramel, toffee, and toasted marshmallow. Pronounced bourbon barrel notes of toasted oak and vanilla. Moderate dark fruit esters of raisin and fig with very low earthy hop aroma.
Taste. Initial impression of massive malty sweetness with flavors of caramel, biscuit, and vanilla fudge. The mid-palate introduces toasted oak and light charred wood from bourbon casks. Bitterness is moderate but balanced by high residual sugar. Finish is moderately sweet and lingering with a clean bourbon aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or fusel.
