Blue Moon Belgian White Ale is a quintessential North American interpretation of the classic Witbier, defined by its invitingly cloudy appearance and vibrant citrus profile. The use of Valencia orange peel imparts a distinct, sunny sweetness that complements the subtle, peppery spice of fresh coriander. Unmalted wheat and oats provide a signature creamy, medium-bodied texture, balancing the beer's bright, zesty acidity. Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (2–4 SRM) with a characteristic milky, whitish-yellow haze from starch and yeast. Features a dense, white, moussy head with excellent retention.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with a bready, grainy wheat character and light honey-like sweetness. Dominant aromatics of zesty Valencia orange peel are balanced by the perfumy, herbal, and slightly peppery scent of coriander. Hop aroma is absent.
Taste. Initial bready, grainy malt flavors lead into a bright, citrusy mid-palate of sweet orange. Subtle, peppery coriander adds complexity without being overpowering. Hop bitterness is low, serving only to balance the malt and spice. The finish is refreshingly crisp and off-dry, with a lingering spiced orange aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a notable smoothness and light creaminess due to the inclusion of oats. High carbonation provides a prickly, effervescent sensation. No alcohol warmth or astringency.
