Basqueland Vermont is a luminous Hazy IPA that exemplifies the juicy, soft-textured substyle. Built on a foundation of Extra Pale and Chit malts, the addition of flaked oats and wheat creates a velvety, pillowy mouthfeel. The hop profile is vibrant and layered; whirlpool additions of Amarillo introduce a bright citrus core, while a heavy dry-hop of Motueka, Mosaic, El Dorado, and YCH 803 explodes with complexity. Expect a refreshing bouquet of lime zest and exotic lychee, anchored by a luscious, sweet undertone reminiscent of apricot compote. It is a modern, fruit-forward expression with a delicate, approachable finish.
Appearance. Straw to light golden (3-5 SRM). Opaque, hazy brilliance without being murky. Massive, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and tight lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent lime zest and tropical lychee. Secondary notes of apricot compote and ripe stone fruit. Very low, clean bready malt character from the wheat. No caramel or toast notes. Clean fermentation profile with subtle, supportive fruity esters.
Taste. High fruity hop flavor mirroring the aroma; lime, tropical fruit, and apricot dominate. Low bready malt flavor provides a soft canvas. Bitterness is low to medium-low, perceived as soft and non-lingering. Balanced, off-dry finish that emphasizes juice-like qualities over hop bite. No harsh, grassy, or resinous notes.
