This assertive Double IPA pays homage to the classic, high-gravity Triple IPA style, delivering a bold sensory experience led by its 10% ABV. The aroma bursts with concentrated notes of apricot preserve, lush mango, and bright grapefruit zest. A brief flash of malty sweetness quickly transitions into a unique, dry echo of toasted coconut husk. The palate is dominated by a deep, resinous dankness and firm bitterness that grounds the tropical fruit profile. Cleanly fermented with a smooth but significant warmth, it balances its massive hop presence with a crisp, drying finish typical of the most formidable strong American ales.
Appearance. Luminous deep gold to pale copper with a fine-beaded, persistent off-white head that leaves sticky lacing. Displays good clarity with only a faint, crystalline haze common in heavily dry-hopped ales.
Aroma. High intensity aroma defined by a massive wave of tropical and stone fruits, specifically apricot jam and overripe mango, punctuated by sharp grapefruit zest. A secondary layer of resinous pine and subtle, earthy coconut husk adds complexity, supported by a neutral, grainy malt backbone and a clean, warming ethanol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is a momentary, soft sweetness that quickly yields to intense flavors of tropical fruit and citrus rind. The mid-palate introduces a distinctive toasted coconut character followed by a hard-hitting, resinous, and dank hop bitterness. The finish is remarkably dry for the gravity, leaving a lingering, clean bitterness and a touch of fruit leather in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture that belies its strength. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a crisp lift that prevents the beer from feeling heavy. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth glows in the throat without any solvent-like harshness.
