A profound expression of the English Barley Wine style, Baladin Xyauyù Barrel undergoes deliberate macro-oxidation and twelve months of maturation in oak rum barrels. This still, copper-hued ale eschews carbonation to highlight a dense, syrupy texture. The aroma is an intense concentration of dark caramel, dates, and subtle woodiness derived from the oak rum barrels. On the palate, luscious malt sweetness melds with complex layers of rum-soaked raisins and toffee. At 14% ABV, the alcohol provides a sophisticated, warming presence, finishing with a lingering, vinous complexity akin to a vintage port or sherry.
Appearance. Dark brown with deep copper nuances; completely still with no head, no foam, and no carbonation visible.
Aroma. High intensity; rich and strongly malty with dominant scents of dark caramel, dates, and dried figs. Significant oak rum barrel character provides a delicate wooden note and spiced sugar, accompanied by a pleasant, wine-like oxidative quality.
Taste. Initial impression of intense malt sweetness and viscosity; flavors of toffee, molasses, and dark dried fruits. The rum barrel aging adds complexity with hints of vanilla and wood. Hop bitterness is very low, allowing a sweet, lingering, and vinous finish with significant alcohol presence.
