Bad Bones

Artery is a bold Double IPA that pulses with intense hop saturation from a trio of Citra, Nelson Sauvin, and Southern Cross hops. The aroma leads with high-impact notes of crushed gooseberry and tropical passionfruit, underscored by a resinous, spicy pine character. On the palate, the hop intensity remains dominant, delivering bright grapefruit zest and white wine-like nuances against a lean, neutral malt backdrop. Despite its significant strength, the finish remains remarkably dry and clean, showcasing a firm but smooth bitterness that invites another sip. It is an assertive, modern expression of the style, balancing punchy fruitiness with a crisp, professional edge.

Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange (7-9 SRM). Pours with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves tight lacing. Clarity is good, with only a very faint, acceptable haze.

Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring heavy citrus, tropical fruit, and resinous pine. Distinct notes of gooseberry and white grape from the Nelson Sauvin mingle with Citra’s lime zest and the spicy, lemony pine of Southern Cross. Malt is low and neutral, providing a grainy, crackery support. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.

Taste. High hop flavor follows the aroma with layers of grapefruit, passionfruit, and a distinct vinous character. Bitterness is high and assertive but lacks harshness. Malt flavor is low, providing a soft, unobtrusive base with no significant caramel or toast. The finish is dry, leaving a lingering, resinous, and fruity hop aftertaste. Alcohol is present but clean and smooth.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from hop oils. Carbonation is medium-high. A noticeable but well-restrained alcohol warmth is present. No hop-derived astringency.
