Ayinger Kirtabier is a deeply traditional celebratory lager, crafted specifically for the Kirchweih festival. Utilizing an intensive double decoction mash with a blend of three malts, it presents a sensory profile defined by solid aromatic maltiness and a warm, copper-brown hue. As an unfiltered Märzen, it retains a premium cloudy appearance and a rustic cellar character. The palate is greeted by rich, bready, and toasty malt notes that suggest sweetness before transitioning into a high degree of fermentation. This results in a surprisingly dry, clean finish, punctuated by a distinctly perceptible hop bitterness and a pleasant, sparkling carbonation that ensures drinkability despite its full-bodied nature.
Appearance. Warm brown to deep copper (approx. 14-17 SRM). Persistent, creamy off-white head with good lacing. Distinctly hazy and unfiltered (premium cloudy).
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity of rich, bready, and deeply toasty malt. Notes of fresh bread crust and a subtle rustic yeast character from being unfiltered. Clean lager profile with very low spicy or herbal hop notes.
Taste. Initial impression of elegant, bready malt richness. Complex toasty and melanoidin flavors from the double decoction process. Moderate hop bitterness provides a firm balance to the malt. The finish is well-attenuated, clean, and dry, with a lingering bready aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Moderate to high carbonation providing a lively sparkle. Minimal alcohol warmth; highly drinkable and smooth.
