Eclipse presents a striking sensory contrast, delivering the punchy, hop-forward profile of a classic American IPA within a dark, mahogany frame. The aroma leads with high intensity, showcasing resinous pine and bright citrus notes, underscored by subtle, toasted malt and light chocolate. On the palate, a firm but smooth bitterness integrates seamlessly with restrained flavors of cold-brew coffee and cocoa, avoiding any burnt or ashy character. This Black IPA maintains a lean, sessionable body at 4.3% ABV, finishing remarkably dry with a clean fermentation profile that allows the complex interplay of resinous New World hops and debittered dark malts to remain the focus.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown to black (approximately 35 SRM) with a creamy, persistent light tan head that leaves consistent lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop intensity featuring resinous pine, grapefruit zest, and a hint of dark berry. Low malt character provides background notes of toasted bread and milk chocolate without roasted harshness or acridity.
Taste. Initial hop flavors of citrus and pine dominate, followed by a light chocolate and nutty malt backbone. Medium-high bitterness is prominent but smooth, avoiding the harshness often found in darker styles. Finishes dry with a lingering hop resin and a clean, lightly toasted aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Smooth texture with no astringency from the dark malts and a very subtle, clean alcohol presence typical of its sessionable strength.
