Adelardus Tripel presents a unique, herbal-forward interpretation of a Belgian Tripel, distinguished by its inclusion of an indigenous gruut herbal blend. Pouring a deep, luminous orange, it offers a more robust sensory profile than typical examples of the style. The aroma is a sophisticated tapestry of spicy, peppery phenols and citrusy esters, woven together with a distinctively rustic herbal bouquet. On the palate, a soft, honey-like malt foundation supports complex layers of savory herbs and a firm bitterness. Despite its high ABV, it remains remarkably drinkable with a dry, effervescent finish and a deceptive, well-integrated warmth.
Appearance. Deep orange to light amber (approx. 7–9 SRM). Brilliantly clear with a dense, long-lasting, creamy white head that leaves intricate lacing as it recedes.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex bouquet of peppery phenols and orange-like esters. The gruut addition introduces a rustic, earthy herbal layer with hints of dried flowers. A light, honey-like pilsner malt sweetness provides a clean, supportive background.
Taste. Initial impression of soft malt sweetness followed by a surge of spicy yeast character and savory herbal flavors. Firm bitterness balances the fuller malt profile, leading to a very dry and clean finish. Aftertaste is long and complex, featuring lingering peppery spice and a faint floral hop character.
