À l'abri de la Tempête Trans IPA reinterprets the German Pils by marrying traditional lager crispness with an aggressive hop forwardness. A clean Lager yeast fermentation ensures a neutral backdrop for the intensified hop profile, which delivers an array of flowery, spicy, and modern resinous notes. The inclusion of wheat provides a delicate, doughy malt character and a slightly softened texture, balancing the assertive bitterness. This straw-colored lager maintains the style’s hallmark dry finish, punctuated by a refreshing mineral snap, while the 5.8% ABV adds a subtle, well-integrated warmth to this complex, high-attenuation hybrid.
Appearance. Straw to deep yellow (3-4 SRM). Very clear with a slight, transient haze from the wheat content. Features a dense, creamy, long-lasting white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop character, featuring floral, spicy, and herbal notes alongside modern resinous and citrus cues. Low grainy-sweet, cracker-like malt is present, with a distinct doughy bready quality from the wheat. Fermentation is very clean with no esters.
Taste. Initial bready wheat and honeyed cracker malt flavors are quickly overtaken by a firm hop bitterness. Hop flavors are prominent, mirroring the aroma with spicy, herbal, and zesty citrus qualities. The balance is decidedly bitter, leading into a very dry, crisp, and refreshing finish with a lingering clean bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a subtle, smooth creaminess from the wheat. High carbonation provides a crisp, tongue-scrubbing sensation. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
